Hackney Pony

The Hackney Pony is a smaller edition of the Hackney Horse. It is assumed that its first appearance was in 1866 due to a chance mix of blood of trotting ponies.

These ponies were eventually perpetuated with a planned breeding program.

The body is compact with a smaller chest. The legs are short with strong hocks and well shaped feet. The tail is set and carried high. The Pony’s coat hair is fine and silky.

The action is high, straight and free giving the Hackney tremendous speed without bouncing a cart or carriage. It is found mostly in bays, browns and blacks.

The Hackney Pony stands less than 14 hands high.
